Welcome to Villa Madonna Montessori
Living together in the Montessori classroom, we have established the following "Grace and Courtesy" so all children are safe and respected. Feet walk; voices are quiet; carry work with two hands; work at a table or floor mat; walk around spaces without disturbing others; put things where they belong after use; and new work requires a lesson.

Our Mission
At Villa Madonna Montessori, our mission is to provide a learning environment in which children are encouraged to develop an awareness of self and respect for the community and to honor their spirituality. -
Environment
A safe, loving, family-like environment ensures a Christian atmosphere. Small classes, with a 12:1 teacher ratio, provide individualized attention. All teachers are Montessori certified and Villa Madonna Montessori is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS) as well as the Cincinnati Montessori Society (CMS). Villa Madonna Montessori is situated on 60+ scenic acres near St. Walburg Monastery over-looking the Ohio River in Villa Hills, Kentucky. -
Curriculum
Montessori, for children ages 3-6, is based on a three-year cycle designed to cultivate each child’s natural desire to learn. In order to achieve this goal, the Montessori program is set up to help each child reach his/her full potential in all areas of life. Maria Montessori believed that all areas were equally important to a child’s development. These areas include grace and courtesy, practical life, sensorial, language, math, cultural, art and peace. -
Results
Montessori children leave the program prepared to enter the first grade. They have learned to work independently and collaboratively. Since they have been encouraged to make decisions from an early age, these children are problem-solvers who can make choices and manage their time well.

Villa Madonna Montessori is a non-profit Montessori school (ages 3-6) founded by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery. It is located on the grounds of and managed by Villa Madonna Academy.

A Montessori Curriculum
All students attend school Monday through Friday from 8:10-11:20am. Kindergarten students attend from 8:10-2:10pm, Monday through Thursday, on Fridays from 8:10-11:20am.
The Montessori school offers before school care, extended care, and an after school program.

Enrichment
The Montessori curriculum is enhanced with regular visits from local organizations such as the School House Symphony. Spanish is also offered once a week during the school day for an additional fee. Kindergarten children have the option of staying on Friday afternoons for a music class, for an additional fee.

Our History
Villa Madonna Montessori was founded in 1971 by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery, women with a deep commitment and dedication to growth-oriented education. Over the years, VMM has graduated thousands of children, many of whom attended Villa Madonna Academy and other Montessori schools. -

I am Molly Buten, Director of the Montessori program. I have been at Villa Madonna Montessori since 2013; before that I ran my own school, raised my own three Montessori children, and was a Montessori child myself.
Villa Madonna Montessori was founded in 1971 by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery. It was their vision of seeing a need in the community and fulfilling that need, that began a program that has grown and prospered. The devotion and strong commitment of the lay and religious Montessori teachers through the years to the Montessori philosophy and the Benedictine values created an educational environment for young children to thrive spiritually, socially, and academically.
The Montessori philosophy allows children to be. To be who they are now, and the time to grow into who they will be in the future. We have three multi-age Montessori classrooms, all with certified Montessori teachers, who are trained in Montessori philosophy and the Montessori materials.
All children arrive at Villa Madonna Montessori with their own experiences, energy, and talents. The teachers, or guides as Maria Montessori liked to call them, are in the classroom to observe the children and guide their development through lessons. The children are then able to choose their work to practice and master skills. These skills can range from fine motor to the more academic work of blending sounds to read and mathematic operations.
None of this happens quickly, which is why the three year cycle is so important. The three years in a Montessori classroom gives the child the time he or she needs to develop from a First Year Student, who comes to the classroom working on their focus to pour carefully, to a Third Year/Kindergarten student, who is a confident role model and has the concentration to complete longer academic work.
