Villa Madonna Academy High School students visited the University of Louisvilleās J.B. Speed School of Engineering to participate in the Transition to Engineering program. T2E was designed to allow high school seniors to gain skills in engineering disciplines such as coding, 3D modeling, and circuit design.
Krithika (photo) and her classmates spent weeks working on their innovative projects that include an automated pill dispenser with daily reminders and a motion sensor; an alarm clock that requires a 4-digit code to turn it off making it harder to oversleep; a weather sensor to measure air pressure; and an LED light up device to help weightlifters achieve the ultimate squat form. Students presented their ideas to faculty and practicing engineers. They received feedback to help them make their prototypes.
The prototypes and presentations are due at the end of April. Students who successfully complete the program can earn credit for first year engineering courses at University of Kentucky, Murray State, Western Kentucky University, or University of Louisville.
