Welcome Back From the Boosters!
September 28, 2020
Dear Villa Parents,
Welcome to the 2020 – 2021 school year. Last year was mostly a successful year for Boosters. We hosted a successful Elementary Invitational in November, had a fantastic Shoot a Thon in January, and did well with the Concession Stand for Volleyball and Basketball. In addition to our typical $20,000 donation to the Athletic Department, Boosters were able to help the Athletic Department with the purchase and installation of new LED lighting for the gym floor, and new mats for the gym foyer.
The funds that Boosters raise are a significant contributor to the Athletic Department budget for the purchase and maintenance of athletic equipment and team uniforms for all of the sports programs at Villa
Due to the Covid19 situation, athletics ceased in March, cutting short the end of some Winter sports, and cancelling spring sports. The Boosters were not even permitted to meet in person. Due to severe limitations on the number of people allowed to gather, and the possibility that some may be going through financial hardships at that time, Boosters decided to cancel our annual summer Golf Outing, which had originally been scheduled for mid-June at Triple Crown Country Club. The Golf Outing typically raises $8,000 - 10,000 for Boosters.
This shortfall in income, will have significant ramifications as we venture through the 2020-2021 year. Fortunately, we had built up a bit of a reserve and were still able to donate $10,000 to the Athletic Department this fall to supplement Fall and Winter Sports. However, those reserves have now mostly been depleted, and with the ongoing Covid19 situation, things do not look promising for our traditional fund-raising opportunities. Concession Stand sales have been eliminated for Volleyball, and likely for Basketball as well. The Elementary Invitational and Shoot a Thon will also likely not be able to be held, with all Diocesan elementary athletics still on hold. Our next traditional fund raiser looks to be the 2021 Golf Outing, which is scheduled for June 21, at Triple Crown Country Club.
The Boosters are therefore looking for new and creative ideas to raise money for athletics for the 2020-2021 school year. Your participation is greatly welcomed. The Boosters typically meet once each month. We have not been able to meet in person yet this year, but anticipate being able to do so soon. Please check the VMA calendar on the website or check school announcements for dates and times of Boosters meetings. Parents of all grade levels are invited to attend Boosters meetings and become involved with the Boosters organization. We are always looking for fresh ideas that will enable us to raise additional money for the VMA athletic program, especially this year.
Over the next couple of years, several of the Boosters Officers will be “retiring” and we will therefore be looking to fill those positions. Please consider becoming involved in Boosters and become the next generation of leaders for this wonderful group.
Thank you for all that you do to help make VMA such a fantastic environment for our children.
